I
had a boss once who always wanted to do everything better
than everyone else (his competition in the food chain),
and he wanted to do everything (so everything was priority
#1.) His slogan was "It only costs a nickel more to go first
class!" This was supposed to motivate us to give our all
on everything we did. Our out-of-earshot reply was: "You
ever tried to buy a first-class ticket?" D.B.
A
bump in the road is either an obstacle to be fought or an
opportunity to be enjoyed…it is all up to you.

Management's
job is to find out what it is doing that keeps people from
doing a good job, and stop doing it. K.C.
"Be
all that you can be" really means that a superior will tell
you what, when, and how much to do and in no way are you
to go one step beyond those boundaries without risk of being
dismissed. M.A.
Another
contrite motivational slogan "You need to think like
a winner to be a winner." J.W.
My
favorite is when a sales supervisor asks: "Is there anything
I can do to help?" Translation: I am not doing anything
but I want to make sure you are so that I get my quota.
