Tompkins Supply Chain Leadership Forum Focuses On ‘Amazon Effect’ as Strategy Driver

2013 Event Set for August 26-28 in Atlanta, GA

Supply chain and logistics executives at the 2012 Supply Chain Leadership Forum recently received a big dose of the “Amazon Effect” as they learned about the latest in supply chain strategy.

Jim Tompkins, CEO and President of Tompkins International, told participants that global business is at a critical X-Roads – and understanding why and how Amazon is their biggest competitor is a key tipping point in determining future success or failure.

“In 2013-2014, there will be more company bankruptcies than in any two-year period of time in history,” Tompkins said. “And a big part of this equation involves Amazon, because whether you realize it or not, they are forever transforming supply chain and customer satisfaction paradigms.” (Hear more about the Amazon Effect in this podcast.)

John Kester, VP of Customer Service and Product Supply at MillerCoors, gave attendees an insider’s look into their organization’s network and customer satisfaction strategies at a luncheon keynote. Then the group headed to a tour of MillerCoors brewery in nearby Goldon, CO, followed by special dinner and beer pairing event with one of Blue Moon’s head brewmasters.

Supply Chain Consortium Leadership Awards were also presented. Companies with leaders receiving awards included the Coca-Cola Company, Domino’s Pizza, the Exchange, GlaxoSmithKline, Hallmark Cards, Johnson & Johnson, Kane is Able, MillerCoors Brewing Company, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Attendees continue to rate the Supply Chain Leadership Forum as one of the top supply chain and business strategy events in the world. Next year’s forum will be held in Atlanta, GA, August 26-28, 2013.
