Tompkins Associates Allows Company to Focus on Core Business
RALEIGH, NC, January 30, 2007 — After implementing a new outsourcing solution, CanGro Foods Inc.’s annual savings are estimated to exceed $1 million. Tompkins Associates provided the leading Canadian grower, processor and canner with the right solution to reduce labor requirements and costs while increasing flexibility and productivity for their newly acquired grocery brands from Kraft Canada.
CanGro Foods, a new company in need of a more coherent supply chain, recently acquired five grocery brands from Kraft Canada and sought to establish warehouse and transportation operations, either by outsourcing or bringing the functions in house. Tompkins Associates was asked to help make this key business decision.
In a three-phase process, which included researching the best methods, responding to Requests for Proposals and analyzing the data, a single 3PL provider was selected for the entire operation. Tompkins acted as project manager for the implementation and coordinated communication between the selected 3PL provider and CanGro.
“With the distribution activities successfully outsourced, we are now focusing on further reducing our supply chain costs and becoming our customers’ ‘best in category’ supply chain partner,” said Geoff Scholes, Vice President of CanGro Foods.
“CanGro has already begun to reduce distribution costs,” noted Joe Sullivan, Project Manager at Tompkins. “With the right outsourcing agreement in place, they can now stabilize the company in the market and begin to grow.”
Scholes added that the company can now put an even greater emphasis on customer service. “By outsourcing our warehousing and transportation to a 3PL expert, we have freed up our internal resources to focus on providing flexible solutions to our customers that not only reduce costs, but also provide business growth opportunities through better service and customer-friendly deliveries,” he said.
Products of CanGro Foods include Aylmer tomatoes, vegetables, fruits, soups and beans, *Primo Soup, and Ideal Vegetables. CanGro also holds the licensing rights for a number of Del Monte products, including canned and jarred fruits and vegetables.
