 RALEIGH, NC, December 20, 2006 — When lean and quality unite, innovation and success are sure to follow. This was the scenario when more than 320 quality and lean practitioners participated in the IIE/ASQ Lean and Quality Conference and Expo 2006 held last month in Atlanta, GA.
Jim Tompkins, CEO of Tompkins Associates, presented a keynote speech and signed copies of his book, Logistics and Manufacturing Outsourcing: Harness Your Core Competencies, for conference participants. Other speakers included: Tom Guthrie, Vice President of Operations, Cox Communications; Patrick Stamm, Vice President of Operations, Golden Rule Insurance Company; and Craig Estep, Vice President of Operations, Cessna Aircraft Company.

“With his extensive knowledge in lean and his exuberant personality, Jim gave a stimulating presentation on The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Supply Chains,” said Beth Cudney, Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Missouri-Rolla and co-chair of the event.
The speakers challenged attendees to step up metrics, focus on customer value and align more closely with their global supply chains. Along with the 80-plus educational sessions, the presenters provided attendees with the knowledge to manage and maneuver whatever is “now” and whatever is “next,” as the conference theme promised. The annual IIE/ASQ Lean and Quality Conference is sponsored by the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Greater Atlanta Section of the American Society for Quality.
