Tompkins Associates Acquires Soleus Group

Move expands supply chain benchmarking services

RALEIGH, NC, May 2, 2005—Tompkins Associates today announced that it has acquired The Soleus Group, a leading supply chain benchmarking and execution firm based in Atlanta, GA. The Soleus Group, a privately held consulting firm founded in 2003, is noted in the supply chain management industry for helping its clients improve operations and decrease costs by sharing best practices and Value Based Benchmarks.SM

John Traendly, founder and managing partner of The Soleus Group, will lead benchmarking programs at Tompkins Associates. Jim Tompkins, President of Tompkins Associates, said that this acquisition is a natural extension of their previous alliance to provide best practices reviews for the retail and consumer products industries.

“This move creates the foremost supply chain consulting, integration and benchmarking company in the world, and it clears a pathway to Supply Chain Excellence for our clients,” Tompkins said. “I’m excited about our clients participating in a benchmarking process that will let them compare their operations to their peers, to best practices and to emerging supply chain innovations.”

With his 32 years of supply chain experience, Traendly echoed Tompkins’ sentiments. “The Soleus Group has been proud of its unique approach to metrics and performance measurements, and we look forward to continuing this winning strategy at Tompkins Associates,” Traendly said.

Most recently, The Soleus Group and Tompkins Associates have led support of two advisory boards focused on supply chain best practices. Best Buy, JC Penney, Rite Aid, Safeway, and Target have formed the Advisory Board for the 2005 Retail Supply Chain Best Practices Review. Distribution center operations, direct-to-consumer operations and transportation (including international, ocean and truck) are the primary topics that the Advisory Board plans to review and analyze in 2005.

Six leading consumer products companies—Campbell Soup Company, Coca-Cola, Coors, Hallmark, Whirlpool, and Polo Ralph Lauren—will conduct an in-depth review of the supply chain best practices and metrics of the world’s leading consumer products companies with support from Tompkins Associates.

For the past 30 years, Tompkins Associates has been well known for its expertise in distribution center and network design, warehouse strategic planning, material handling and systems integration, transportation system planning, and supply chain strategy. This acquisition is one more example of the company’s vision into how the most successful supply chains of the future will look and perform.
