Take the "Snap Out of It, America!" Challenge

Grassroots effort to get America back to business takes President Bush's call to action one step further.

Raleigh, NC, July 10, 2002—In support of complete economic recovery and getting America, and the world, back to business, Tompkins Associates, a global supply chain consulting firm, has launched a website and grassroots effort. Jim Tompkins, president and founder of Tompkins Associates, is asking everyone to take the "Snap Out of It, America!" Challenge with him today.

Beginning with his employees, family, friends and business associates, Tompkins has made it his personal mission to inspire others to make their own commitments to get business moving. The idea behind the "Snap Out of It, America!" Challenge is that everyone—each leader, CEO and employee—can make a positive contribution to the recovery of American business, one person at a time. The "Snap Out of It, America!" Challenge reminds people to get back to the basics of business-trust, integrity and true visionary leadership-and to keep moving forward.

"With the 4th of July holiday approaching, I realized that the one thing I could do for the country was to rally everyone I know—colleagues, co-workers, friends and the entire business community—to fight the economic war we're waging," says Tompkins. "We can't wait for someone else to make something happen. If this one small effort can make a difference in changing the spirit and motivation of Americans, then I've done my job."

President Bush's July 9 address on Wall Street urged CEOs and the business community to set an example through a new ethic of personal responsibility—to establish the ethics for their companies,
to set a moral tone by their decisions, to respect their employees and to be held accountable for their actions. When Tompkins launched the "Snap Out of It, America!" Challenge on July 2, he was also creating a code of ethics that everyone, not just business leaders, can follow. His six "Snap Out of It, America!" declarations outline this code and take it one step further by challenging the leader in each of us to help America get back to business.

Since launching the "Snap Out of It, America!" Website on July 2, over 600 people from around the world have signed on to take the challenge. The site features weekly commentary from Jim Tompkins and links to other commentary on rebuilding the American economy.
