Holiday Shopping: Customers On the Lookout for Great Deals and Discounts in 2011
Shoppers don’t have to wait until Black Friday to get great deals. A recent survey revealed that 64% of consumers polled are looking for discounts of 30% to 50% in order to make a purchase. This is up from 54% last year.
In 2011, holiday shopping is all about price. Shoppers will use their iPhones to price check in real time and download coupons. Today’s consumer is well informed and uses the Internet to compare as well as purchase.
What does this mean for retailers? The National Retail Foundation predicts smaller gains than last year’s 5.2% but higher than the average increase for November and December over the last 10 years. Having product on the shelves or ready to ship -- at the lowest price -- is the game this year. Never has supply chain efficiency & effectiveness been more important. Happy shopping!
