Job Title of Opening: Associate Consultant Position

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs operations consulting projects in the distribution field. Projects include: Distribution Center Design, Logistics Network Modeling, Best Practices and Distribution Center Improvement, Distribution Center Detail Design, and Distribution Center Implementation.
  • The successful applicant will be able to analyze client’s historical data along with future projections to develop creative and justifiable solutions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related degree (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Previous industry experience a plus
  • Adequate competency of MS Access, MS Excel, VISIO flow chart software, and familiarization with AutoCAD
  • Excellent analytical skills are a must
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines effectively under time constraints
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (50% to 100%)

Job Opening: Material Handling System Design Engineer

Location: Orlando FL
Classification: Exempt

Tompkins Associates, Inc. has an immediate need for a Material Handling System Design Engineer in our Orlando, FL office. The successful candidate will have 8 or more years experience designing and estimating the cost of automated material handling systems. A good understanding of warehouse control software and distribution center operations is also required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes client provided data to understand operational, storage, and throughput requirements
  • Leads or participates in developing conceptual and detailed designs for complex automated Material Handling Systems to include deciding on equipment applications
  • Leads or works as part of a team in the preparation of complex material handling solution proposals, including the development of projected costs for equipment, control systems, project management, engineering, and implementation labor
  • Prepare or coordinate preparation of proposal level drawings and BOMs
  • Transition projects to performance phase and / or act as project manager or technical lead through performance phase
  • Monitor and control technical effort to assure compliance with system requirements
  • Identify and manage technical risk
  • Writes complex material equipment specifications and participates in selecting vendors for Material Handling Systems

Requirements:

  • BS in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • At least 8 years experience in Material Handling System Design and developing solutions for complex client requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Accuracy and attention to detail is very important. Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Must be willing and able to take a leadership role on projects
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills
  • Industry knowledge, design capability and proper application of material handling equipment and controls -- conveying, staging/storage, sorting equipment, automated storage and retrieval systems, etc.
  • Understanding of DC operations and / or manufacturing operations
  • Familiarity with material handling control systems, warehouse management systems, and interfaces to higher level business applications
  • Advanced AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Experience in use of simulations to validate design assumptions and provide proof-of-concept complex material handling systems is desired
  • Ability to travel an average of 60% each week. Short durations of more intensive travel may be required
