Bold Leadership Week: June 11-15, 2007

Strong leadership and insight are needed more now than ever before - so author Jim Tompkins has declared June 11-15 Bold Leadership week. Participate by using these five tips today to make yourself and your organization bold.

1. Clear out old myths. Leadership is not a position, and bold leaders do not command and control--they motivate, form relationships and tap into other’s motivations.

2. Give power away. Strengthen people by giving power away, providing choices, developing competence, assigning critical tasks and offering visible support.

3. Teach others to lead. Create a spirit of cooperative learning that breeds confident action and a cycle of teaching that fosters more leaders.

4. Agree on core competencies. What is it that your organization does best and what functions provide the most value? Critically examine all activities and focus on core competencies.

5. Turn disruptions into advantages. Think of disruptions and even disasters as opportunities to tighten supply chains and increase flexibilities.
