Looking Beyond the Technology
in RFID Projects

Operations has always been at the forefront of the push to adopt RFID in the supply chain. Since the first pilot programs, distributors and manufacturers have sought ways to improve operational efficiency through RFID. As companies dive deeper into the mechanics of RFID, however, a technology-centric view is often difficult to avoid. Having a purely technological approach is risky because organizations tend to perceive RFID as a tactical solution to meet mandates, rather than as a strategic tool to grow the enterprise. The solution: lead with operations.

With retail and government supplier mandates looming, it is more important than ever for operations to play a key role in RFID implementations. Like it or not, operations must be a full partner in the RFID decision-making process since they are probably going to end up owning the final solution in the warehouse.
